I've ridden quite a few horses for other people and I always paid my own entry. In these cases, they were doing me a favor to loan me a horse to ride. The only way I'd expect them to pay the entry is maybe if the horse was green and I was doing them a major favor (and didn't much want to). I have accepted a *gift* when someone provided a horse and the entry but if there was any question, I paid.
