[RC] Safety issue with goosenecks - Sheila_Larsen

I saw an article in the Horse magazine. There was a study on horse trailer
accidents and the most serious ones that cause both human and horse death
was railroad tracks with low clearance. Although I have never seen this,
the article was saying that if you see a sign at RR tracks that says low
clearance do not try and cross as you may get hung up on the tracks (not a
good thing). They stated that there are usually detour signs or othe signs
indicating another way to get over the tracks. Of course I was wondering
-- if I got hung up on the tracks the first thing I would do is unload my
horses, then call 911, but sometimes things happen so quickly that
hindsight is 20/20.

Another safety tip is that if you park in an area with a lot of people
always check your hitch before you leave. Many years ago in the SF Bay
Area , non-equestrians were pulling the pin on the hitches so it would look
like you were hitched but the pin wasn't there. Haven't heard of any
incidences recently but not a bad idea anyway.
