RE: [RC] setting records - heidi

Golly, we go through 700-800 small bales a year--and that's only a quarter of our herd, since the ones that are "out" get big rounds.  (Thankfully, most of the "big round" crew is out on pasture for a good part of the summer and fall...)  We hauled another 127 this morning--need to do a lot better this afternoon, but we needed to break for lunch and run some errands.

Hubby and I did 2 days over 4th of July weekend moving 224 bales each trip.  And had to unload and stack the next day.  Plus drive 250 miles each way to get them because that’s how far we have to drive to get hay less than $8/bale.  And we only broke down once!  So that’s 12 ton – I think I need about 80 more to feel ok that we have enough to make it through the year with a boarding facility.  If I had a good enough source of hay, I’d be seriously considering buying a semi and trailer and start hauling hay for a living – seems like there is a draught somewhere every year where people need good hay brought in!
