FW: [RC] Nervous--the horse's perspective - Curtis, Laura (LauraCurtis)

I rode trails for years that were shear drop offs on one side (like you can't
see the bottom!) and a rock wall on the other--narrow, too--that we had to
share with downhill mountain bikers careening madly and often out of control
down the trail. I never gave it a thought because: 1. The trails were
GORGEOUS, and 2. That's what was available. Plus I rode a real nutbar of a
horse--famous for 180s and bolting. I always told myself that I KNEW we would
be fine and that my horse, despite his antics, WOULD get us down the trail,
rather than we might get hurt, or not make it down the trail--STEELY
DETERMINATION!!! I seriouly believe that my horse 'read' my confident attitude
and was consequently confident himself. I have not been seriously injured on a
horse, however; perhaps that would change my perspective.

Sometimes when a horse is extra careful I wonder if they're thinking, "Gawd,
I'd better watch out, this person has to be NUTS to ride a horse on this
trail!"
