FW: [RC] Nervous or Crazy - sherman

photo #8758 is my personal "pucker point".

I never even noticed Pucker Point although I was warned
about it. The section of Western States Trail that REALLY makes me
nervous, is the cliff section between Foresthill & Francisco's, I think
below Cal 2. Most Tevis riders pass through in the dark. It takes about
15-20 minutes at a steady jog or easy trot. I ALWAYS say a prayer when
entering this section and sometimes find myself holding my breath. No
jiggy horses here please, no turning, and no pausing for anything when I
ride there. For the most part, there is a steep drop-off to the river
far below, with no vegetation to slow or stop a fall. I constantly scan
the up-hill side for any signs of movement that may lead to the horse
flinching. One time, a squirrel jumped right down under my horse's nose
and scampered up the trail in front of us. Even though this horse will
sometimes act a bit foolish, he does have a strong sense of
self-preservation, so he ignored the squirrel and I thanked God. I wish
there could be some sort of signal system at each end to stop riders
from entering if others are already coming the opposite direction. I
dread ever running across other riders there.

Hey Bruce, look familiar? Here is a link of photos of Pucker Point. Yes,
I was "crazy" enough to have my camera out as we rode over this section
of trail. Click link below, then over on the right, click next for the
series of the next 5 photos of the trail.
