[RC] Gaited Vs Arabs - Bruce Weary DC

Out of curiosity I looked up my ride record this morning (a nice trip down Memory Lane) and looked at my success rate riding Arabs versus that of my gaited horses. Interestingly, my completion rates are nearly identical, but I have actually placed better and have slightly faster ride times on my gaited horses overall. Another improvement I have noticed is that I get no filling of the legs after a ride in the gaited horses, whereas that was a common finding in my Arabs when they stood tied to the trailer after a ride. Lameness has rarely been a problem with my Arabs anyway, but I have never pulled for lameness on a gaited horse in over 40 rides. One exception is a 50 miler that we completed but my horse got a hamstring cramp in the cold weather at the finish line and didn't vet out. And, I feel much better and am more able to help my horse by tailing difficult hills when I'm on a gaited horse.
I guess "succeeding at endurance riding" can be measured by many yardsticks, and that's why nearly all breeds can "succeed" at some level. Pick a breed, any breed, and someone has done an endurance ride on it. Dr Q world renowned statistician
