Re: [RC] which style saddle would you choose? - Marta Kozlowska

carolyn,
i thought so. it didn't look right to me. and i just looked at some freeform websites and they specifically say they're not a good fit on high withered horses. so i'm not even going to think about it.

That narrow ring on the Torsion will put a tremendous amount of pressure in one spot.  I had one, personally loved the saddle, but my horse ended up with big, white stripes (about 2" wide and 4-5" long) right where the stirrup leathers sat just under that ring.  They need to change how they hang the stirrups on that saddle.

i've looked into treeless saddles in the past but my mare has a v. high wither and they seem to be more suited for round horses.  also, i was a little concerned about the way the stirrups are attached to the saddles. i think it was the torsion that has a narrow ring that goes under the seat to which the stirrup bars attach.  i was concerned that the weight of my body in the stirrups would result in a v. localized pressure on her back.

Hi Marta,

That is, until I tried a treeless. I really didn't know my horse could move out in her shoulder so freely.

Borrow a Torsion or a Freeform from someone before you buy. Just try it. I think you'll be amazed.
