Re: [RC] [RC] linking of pedigrees - Michael Maul

Angie,

Members place their horses in the mileage program using Arab or half Arab w/o a registration number just as those with unregistered any other breeds do.

I'd guess it might happen less often with an Arab but it still happens. AERC doesn't require a registration number for any breed when you select the category.

They may not have pedigree links, but they do track the number of each breed.
I always thought it was interesting to see how many of each breed competes.
However, one thing is misleading in the numbers. So far as I know, I can list my
horse as a "Paint" without any papers to prove it, but if I have a purebred, but
unregistered Arab it goes down as "grade". When I gave out breed awards at my
ride, if I had a "1st grade horse" award, I didn't want to give it to a purebred
Arab that nobody bothered to register.

Mike, am I wrong on this? If I've got it right, it just seems to confuse the
stats. If an unregistered Arab can't be listed as an Arab, can there be a listing
for "grade/Arab" or "unpapered Arab"? There's an awful lot of them doing endurance.
Angie (with three unregistered purebreds in the barn)
