RE: [RC] [RC] Gaited Horses - Jim HollandJen, with all due respect, the mustang is no different from any of the other non-Arabian breeds. It is true that they are more likely to have gone through "survival of the fittest" if you pluck them from their wild range, but they STILL don't have the thousands of years of selective breeding of the Arabian. They are STILL not the BEST choice physically for the sport of Endurance. They are still primarily a mix of various breeds and primarily "strays" from Spanish horses. Comparing them to the Arabians except for the reasons mentioned above is a stretch. http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/horses/mustang/index.htm Jim, Sun of Dimanche+, and Mahada Magic Richard T. Although mustangs tend to be incredibly diverse and there are definitely some that are too bulky to excel as endurance horses, there are many that are built along the same lines as Arabians. They too have had to survive in a tough environment and generally have the stamina, bone, and hard hooves to prove it. Just my 2 cents - Jen and her wild horse herd :) From: "Jim Holland" <lanconn@xxxxxxx> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
