I inherited a lifetime supply (about 2 oz) that I use to lube an antique clock. 150+ years ago this was the oil used for oil lamps. The interesting thing is that most species of Whales are endangered etc. As far as I know the only nations doing Whaling now are Norway and Japan, and then officially only for "research". I am also sure that the importation of whale products to the USA is banned to help save the whales. All of this would indicate to me that no matter what the virtues of whale oil as a leather conditioner, we are not going to be using it any time soon.
