[RC] de - elevator rides - smuncy

Hmmm, interesting,  Stephs'  post about de-elevators. First thought  ? may increase those entries that would at  least try a 100  .... ( Too bad I am so behind in reading post, and have to admit.... I have not read all).   At first I thought - wow ! , what an idea, then after reading some of the negatives.... ok,  maybe not  'so good'   : (
but ...and sorry, if I missed something,  and  am posting what has already been ''shot down", .. but  ..... yes, it would be 'a change'..... and not all change is bad.    And  " I "   see it as having to go into  a 100, with "The Mindset".( alluded to by ??someone, a few?  - that you are entering 100, and have to complete 100.) .. so  bear with me....
Enter 100 - pay full fee for 100, reguardless,  only get 'points'   if the rider / horse completes 100.   All  'usual criteria, hold times, etc.' .   They only get mileage credit only, ( 50, 75 ) .. If need to stop  - more 'rider problem'   than  horse,  after 50 miles.  --IF --  horse 'good to go' at end of  50 - meets all criteria, and especially time criteria !! - to make other  'holds', 'cut off  times' .;  and rider, says they just can not, (and really do not  think that many would,).... then no points, just  mileage - 50.  Rider / horse has to make regular 100  mile ride 'cut - off  times to holds' for 100.
**  IE >  a horse/ rider that comes in to 50 mile 'hold' at 12 hrs, seriously doubt,  they are going to make the rest of  the 'hold, cut off' times. for ' the 100 ', in fact they would have already missed 'cut off' times for some 100 mile 'holds'  at a  few rides?  ( * Of course, some adjustments will have to be made by riders - if  they do stop - at 50+  on 100 mile trail?? - of their own doing, - they decide they can not go on....then, they have to get horse back to base camp.... especially those trails that are laid out different for different distances... or pay trailering back, and / or  wait til trailer available;  A good incentive to continue, and not go into ride with 'mindset',  oh,... I'll only do..x...).   If horse 'good to go' at 75, but rider can not "go on", then get 75 mileage  credit only, .  If  horse pulled at over 60 miles , get 50 mileage credit only. No points* for any completion  < 100*  - just mileage  to last 'hold passed'  after 50 miles. - They have already 'passed' previous 'hold' .  In other words they would ride under all 100 mile criteria, as far as 'hold times', and get mileage to previous 'hold'  if horse 'pulled'  and  to current 'hold';  if rider 'just could not go on'.  After 50 get 50 mile credit, if after 75 then 75. If rider quits before 75 - mileage credit  to 50, if rider quits at 95 - then credit mileage to 75. Hmm, hope this makes some kind of sense, hard to describe. But may be worth considering, I think it may increase enteries.and alot of those  would probably be successful.
I see difference between ' elevator concept' and what Steph was saying as ..  in points, and why ?? so few elevate. ..
why should I enter  a 50 - say, and  ride well, finish with points in a division. * This is rhetorical.*   And 'throw it all aside', points, etc.    to elevate to another mileage to get mileage completion only.??... With  I what stated above, the 'glory' is only in finishing the 100. With that - I will say I never rode for 'points',  I rode  primarily for 'fun'; we  just did what we could that day, and I did a couple 100s,  I may or may not do any again, but... but I like the concept of  'mileage only , or go for  ' the  100 '. JMO Stephanie M
