I certainly believe it was the hype and publicity and the costly prizes that 
went a long way toward making the ROC "the" ride to do.  I've heard in the 
past about a lot of trail snafus that occurred, but the legendary status of 
the ride brushed the mistakes aside.  I agree that AERC does not put into 
the Championship the hype that ROC had.  I was on the board when we changed 
the National Championship requirements and agenda to what it is today, and 
I'm disappointed in the outcome.  I cannot remember for 5 minutes who won 
anything, and I believe that having a champion in every one of 5 divisions 
is watering down the glory so much that no one really cares anymore.
