Cowboy magic seemed to work pretty well for us.  I was told rubbing alcohol
too, but haven't tried that yet.

Nail polish remover will take it out.   I have also use Goo Gone, silicone
hair spray for shine and horse polish.  You might try a spray of vinegar and
water with SSS or mane/tail...vinegar breaks up scab material om my horse's
allergy bumps.
