Re: [RC] Shockwave therapy - Sharon Levasseur

Actually, there are no less than THREE vet offices working on this case, which
is hysterical since the problem is so minor that most of the time it can hardly
be seen at all. Guess I'm neurotic.

The initial exam was done by Foxcroft Vet in Dover-Foxcroft Maine, where all
three equine vets stood around and tried to decide which leg was the trouble.
There was some blocking and x-rays done but nothing conclusive. The most
experienced one of these three vets is the one who talked to me today about
Adequan/Legend/RVI and then sold me some RVI for the muscle issue.

Zephyr's chiropractor/acupuncturist is also an equine vet (Dr. Cindy Reynolds,
Searsport Maine), although she limits her practice to chiro/acu now. She
recommended the following vet for follow-up work. She was the first vet to
mention RVI to me.

Last year's tendon diagnosis and shockwave therapy was done by Dr. Herb Powers
of Pittsfield Maine, a locally-well-known lameness specialist. The whole visit
was around $200 I think, but that included some blocking and x-rays, sorry I
don't know how much the shockwave session itself was! I talked to this vet
last week and he also agreed that RVI may help if the muscle issue is unrelated
to the inflamed tendon.

Hey, I'm nothing if not thorough. (OK, maybe even anal.)

Quoting Ag47xAu49@xxxxxxx:

You have a great vet. Shock wave therapy, I love. It has been great with the
4-H pony. Let us know how it goes. Who is your vet and how much does it run
per shock/wave? Beccy in Ut.

actually recommended the shockwave therapy
since it's less invasive... either that or injecting into the coffin joint
instead of the navicular bursa... he says there's a good deal of risk
involved
when you inject through a tendon like you have to with the nav-bursa
injection.)

So... for now... I have some RVI that I will use for 6 days with the vet's
blessing. If it resolves the upper-leg soreness, great. If not, the vet
agrees that it can't hurt him!

Thanks for all y'all's help understanding this stuff.
