RE: [RC] logbooks etc - heidi

I agree that the resistance would come from the need for more paperwork.  I do think it is a great system, otherwise.

I wonder if a hybrid system would work?  It wouldn't have as much detailed information from the checks, but perhaps if you had to present a log book upon entry and then it was just at the finish line?  And the vet would dictate comments at the post-ride check to put in the log book?  That way, there would still be SOME indication of what the vets have thoguht of the horse through the day and at the end, and certainly there would be value in having pull details and treatment details recorded for the next ride's vets to see.

I know as a ride vet, I'd love to have that information in front of me, as well as the frequency, distance, and speeds that the horse had been ridden lately.

I'd say you'd get more resistance from fear of needing an more workers
and additional bookwork than from any fear of tighter constraints on
riding. I've managed a ride where I had to sit in a drippy tent trying to
sort through multiple pages where the in timer recorded the finishers and
kept starting new sheets as the last got too wet, then didn't number the
sheets and it was all a runny mess. It's just scarey to think of handling
something that's considered permanent in those conditions.

As a rider, I'd love to have a logbook that recorded all his rides in
order, etc. As a manager I'd be really worried picturing 200 entries and
a person with a box of log books trying to find each horse's book without
delay as they enter the P&R area. Seems that if you just wanted to keep a
watch on horses that were pulled, having a logbook in your glove
compartment that had to be presented for a notation if the horse is
pulled would be just as efficient. Then you'd have to present your log
book at vet in for them to check for notations maybe?
