RE: [RC] logbooks etc - heidi

OK, gotcha.  That WOULD prove difficult at many of our rides, where the vet checks are geographically distant from each other and it is impossible for the same staff people to be at successive checks.  (Vets and staff often "leapfrog" each other--the staff at #1 might go to #3, and the staff from #2 might return to the finish, on a 50-miler.)  At more than a few of our rides, it is tough enough for the rider's own crew to get to the next check in time to meet its rider, as drivers may have to travel considerably further than riders in some cases.

Yes, we carry our cards all the time.  Many of us carry them in zip-lock sandwich bags to protect them from the weather, but they still tend to get bent and beat up over the course of the day.

I'd sure hate to have to wear a bib to carry a book around--if it was small enough, it might fit in a pommel pack, but I think I've seen examples of your log books, and I don't remember them as being that small.

Hi Heidi,

You asked:
>My question was WHERE do people usually carry them?  In my experience, anything I carry on the horse has a tendency to get beat up over time.

Riders don't carry them. The typical procedure is.
Pay your entry fee, initial details written in your book by ride office staff. Book returned to you.
Present your book and horse to vet for pre-ride inspection. Details recorded in book (same as card) Book retained by ride office staff
You do not take the book on course.
When you present your horse for vet checks during the ride, they have a desk where all the books 'live'.  Probably an identical system to the card system. (or do you take your cards with you?) At the end of the ride, the book is returned with your buckle/trophy or whatever, or if you vet out, you just collect it from the secretary and go home.

On rare occasions where there are traveling check points (say 5% rides? or some FEI's?, can't remember), some ride organisers have designed a little zip-up pocket in the front of the bib or number that you wear during competition.
