[RC] Californios Lite - Bruce Weary DC

Dayna and I just returned from one of the nicest rides we can remember in a long time--the Californios Lite 50. Basecamp is a grassy meadow under huge oaks, with plenty of water and room to spread out. The ranch was a training stable years ago for racing quarter horses, I believe, with an historic old barn that is fun to poke around in. It is a challenging and gorgeous trail, with a 2300 foot climb right off the bat, up to an elevation of about 5500 ft. There are several smaller climbs all along the Pacific Crest Trail, with excellent footing most of the day, and many mountainous views. Interestingly, we saw cloud cover about 3000 ft below us, concealing the hills and valleys below. There was plenty of water at appropriate places, and a trail so well marked Stevie Wonder could have followed it. It was cool all day, reaching maybe the low 80's, but with a light breeze always ushering us down the trail. The forested trail very much reminded us of Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring movies. I think I could hear the Ents talking............ We will be back next year, as well as at the Californios 65 in June. We did the Californios 100 a couple of years ago, and IMO, it rivals Tevis in heat and difficulty. Dr Q, world renowned trail appreciator
