[RC] Rapid Pulse Recovery - rides2far

1. Is taking more than 15 minutes to recover predictive of trouble
later in
the ride?

I would be against this proposal. I'm picturing a hot ride. Our vets
always require all tack off. If it's a big ride your crew area may be a
ways from the P&R. If I get my in-time, walk a ways to my crew area, and
pull tack, I may get his pulse down to 64 pretty soon, but it's going to
climb again if I have to walk him back to the check...so I have to work a
little harder and get his pulse considerably below 64 before heading
towards the P&R. 15 min. is too tight. Our vets have ways of tightening
criteria, like lowering the pulse requirement to 60, or doing CRI's. It
wouldn't bother me if the vets had the right, maybe if more than one vet
agreed...to send a rider on for "completion only" ...but I would not be
in favor of a hard & fast 15 min. time period.
