[RC] Prineville 25 miler - could be my first! - martina keil

Hello All!
I am contemplating doing the Prineville 25 LD event in May.
The horse I would be using has completed 2 Ride and Ties...the latest the 25 Grizzly Mountain last weekend.
We finished in 4:55. She had great scores except for B gut sounds...she is still learning to drink although she is wired to eat constantly and does so!

My husband on the other hand is still on a crutch!
He fell within the first 3 miles and although he did not run, his ankle swelled up considerably! Hope I did not to lose my Ride and Tie partner for the rest of the year!

So my question is....if all I can manage between now and then is 3 rides a week (two 1-1.5 hours and one longer) can we complete a slow LD. WHat length should I do the longer...I figure we are covering about 5-7 miles per hour. Not so much trotting because the mud is so bad.

She is a stout (barrel shaped) Mustang and I know heat dissipation is something to consider, but figure a May ride is a good place to be for her. Also curious on the terrain/course of Prineville versus Grizzly Mountain.

Thanks....you can answer directly as to not bulk up other e-mails!
Martina
