Re: [RC] [RC] head shaking - April Allison

Ok, yall can laugh at me. My Skip had a head shaking episode last month, reason?......,  I washed tack and the kids  put the headstalls back together. I don't usually use a curb strap, but the kids put it on so I left it. It was too loose.  Skip played with it until he flipped it into his mouth and then he quit shaking his head and spent the last 7 miles chewing on the strap. Thats what happens when I pay attention to the kids stuff instead of to my own stuff. I tacked fast so I could watch the kids tack and make sure they got their stuff on right..... didn't pay attention to my own. Ok, yall can laugh at me now. At least I can be good for comic relief.

My mare has just started doing something similar, happens every "pest season". For her it's the gnats, no-seeums, mosquitos, etc. Another mare I keep for a friend, already has sores in her ears from the bugs, and of course she won't let us touch them to apply Swat, so I'll use a spray instead. Hope it's something that simple with your mare.

Lovely, kind, easy to ride 8yr old Arab mare suddenly is very unhappy & difficult to ride, continually shaking her head & trying scrach nose on legs only under saddle Do you think something could be in one of her ears? Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this kind of behavior? jvm
