  What about a Stun gun? If you dismounted and they attacked?And if you are 
dismounting  --do you try and hang on to your horse?
   I had always carried a small peper spray in my fanny pack.....but if you 
are alone...between loose dogs and the increased coyote population ( one 
attacked a jogger in  a running area inthe suburbs last year near here...he 
wrestled the coyote till he got help ...it had Rabies.....)
  So if you ride alone--Pepper spray -strong kind, a knife sheath strapped 
to your leg and a Stun Gun ?
