[RC] AERC Trail Symposium-Glenville, WVa. - Tom Sites

With Matthew Mackay-Smith and Stagg Newman in the class i had no expectations of graduating Magna Cum Laude, but i graduated, and Jerry Fruth was Oh so correct..."You will never look at Trail the same way again."

I would like to Thank AERC for providing this program to its Members and encourage any Ride Manager or interested persons to consider attending this class as ..."you will never look at Trail the same way again."  Our Trails are fastly being encroached upon by the constant onslaught of development and in the future will be more important than it is today.

Mike Riter of Trail Design Specialists is a passionate and most knowledgeable speaker and instructor on the design and maintenence of Trail, and is in the unique position to really enjoy his job and it shows.  Thank you, Mike.  I'll never forget you and this class.

Amanda Stewart and Glenville State College were our hosts and provided us with ample and abundant accomadations and assistance.  Amanda will probably even evolve a ride from this venue using some of the 150' of Trail the class constructed.  Thank you Amanda.

I was fortunate to meet Nancy Sluys who camped w/ me in the field at the rifle range and we had time to talk and cook and eat over  a wide range of topics ,and she put me to sleep w/ her fiddle music the first nite and was part of the local entertainment Friday nite when she sat in on the Local Jam session playing the banjo.  Thank you Nancy and i look forward to seeing you at the OD in June.

Being in a setting like this for 4 days and  seeing old friends and meeting new friends and getting to know people you really don't know was another wonderful experience to bring home.  Thank you, All.

There are 2 things that stand out to me from this class, and from Mike, it is that...."Bad Trail is always bad Trail Design".  From Jerry i saw.."that i will never look at Trail the same again."
