If you are riding in a typical English saddle or one that is rigged so that the stirrups hang from a single point, unless you're in a saddle with a lot of surface area like one with panels or Western-- then you put a ton of pressure on those points from standing. Take a look at the stirrup bar on a bare (English) tree:
