Wow, I would never have considered flax seed.  Thanks, I'll try it.  Do you have to grind it daily just before feeding?

Mary, I had the exact same problem with a young horse I brought to California from Oregon....I started grinding Flax seed and worked up to about a cup a day....no more hives, nor more weeping pustules.  I did experiment and cut off the flax seed...the hives came back.  Reintroduce the flax seed = no more hives.  I think grinding it freshly is key.  I hope you try it (and let me know if you do).  It sure gave my "baby"  complete relief.
