Frustrating...I'm grateful to know I'm not alone, however.

Not alone at all. My weight gain started when I had to lay off my endurance horse for a year due to a bowed tendon. Even when I "came back", I had moved into the magic weight-gaining years and it has been nothing but a battle since. I figure I am carrying around an extra 4 bowling balls. NO WONDER my knees are complaining!
