[RC] diagonals/posting demystified - Jackie Causgrove

The trot is a 2 beat gait.  If you sit two bumps, then you'll be on the same diaganol as before.

To change diagonals simply sit out one full stride. Begin rising again after one ?bump? of the trot. This should put you on the correct diagonal.

If you change diagonals often when trail riding, then you won?t always be putting your weight on, the same set of legs during the sit phase of your posting.
To stay on the same diagonal over long period of time may cause a crooked horse.
Crooked horse more prone to injuries.
