Re: [RC] Empty finish line - Barbara McCrary

I cannot imagine anything more depressing to a rider than to arrive at the finish line to discover everyone has left, including the vets.

Wow, Skyla. Yeah, mostly must be Idaho--Pam Haynes arrived at the finish (frequent SWIT&DR turtle winner) once and found two t shirts pinned to a tree also!

I have a friend who was drag riding down here under adverse weather conditions though, and found everyone gone when she got in. I thought that was rather counter-productive for all involved, what was the point of having a drag rider (except for the ribbon pulling she did) and what a lack of regard for whether or not her horse would not need any vetting.

Skyla,

Oh, thats funny! Must be something peculiar to the Idaho/Montana/ Utah areas back in those days. Many of the rides we hauled to were small and had mostly local riders, so it was not uncommon to see the riders pack up and go home; but we thought it was really UNUSUAL for the ride management and vets to go home!! But apparently not, if you had it happen, too!

Hey Barb, I can relate to that one! My (now ex) husband and I were
doing a ride, and coming out for the last time, we had the vet
drive by us. My horse was off, and I asked that a trailer be
sent
to pick us up. An hour and a half later, we walk into camp (?),
just our trailer, and nothing else! Needless to say, the two of
us both got completions, as there wasn't anyone around to say
otherwise. :oP Now that was a finish I rather not repeat!

Skyla
