[RC] Maiden Mare Question - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Have a question for all of the vets/breeders out there. Am
starting to look for a mare to breed to my stallion next year,
and was looking at one that is an 18 year old maiden mare. She
did have a vet check and the vet detected a small bacteria count,
(due possibly to fecal matter) but the vet's opinion was that she could be bred
after being flushed. My question is how hard
is it to breed a mare this old for the first time? She is still
having regular heat cycles. I could possibly free lease the mare
so I would not be out $ w/ a purchase; but don't want to consider this option
unless it would be a good 'fit' for my
purposes and I could successfully breed her. Also, in regards
to flushing her system, would appreciate any info with someone
that has gone through this and what specific regimen is the best
to clear something like this up prior to trying to breed, so
that you are successful? It is not something "Oh no, the horse
has a bacterial count!!" but rather the vet was being thorough
and mentioned it as part of the exam. To keep this endurance
related, am shooting for a foal that would be my next endurance
mount 6 - 7 years down the line after Shaba retires. Thanks for
any info that can be provided.

Lauretta and Shaba (What? Huh? A girl?)
