[RC] clicking in pasterns - Kari Hanes

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a ride here in Michigan. I saddled up and planned on at least 15 miles. I got about a mile into it and noticed this clicking sound every once in a while. My first thought was is she interfering?? Never done that before. So we walked a bit more and I heard it again. Really started watching and it seemed to be coming from her left hind pastern area, just when she lifted her hoof to bring it forward. So we headed for home and called the vet - she can't come until the 5th. Mare is not lame at all and was totally full of "it" when we headed back home. Put her out in the pasture and she was tearing around (still full of "it")! I plan to stay off her until the vet comes, which will probably mean we'll miss our first scheduled ride April 8 at Allegan. Has anyone had this experience? It sounds like someone cracking a knuckle, just a quiet click. I don't mind staying home from the ride - I'm very cautious and would rather skip it than chance it. It's very puzzling, this mare has never had any leg issues.
