Re: [RC] New Cuyama Ride - Laney Humphrey

So sorry your Cuyama experience was such a bummer! And I hope you can get the tying up problem identified and fixed. I had my trailer all loaded and went to catch my horse to leave for Cuyama when a small cut he had on his canon that had been fine the day before was now tender and his fetlock was swollen. So, we didn't even get off the ranch!
As you say, maybe next year!

Well - the Cuyama ride is right now on day two - day three tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I was there yesterday attempting to ride day one when my horse tied up at about 3 miles. Naturally, it was on a narrow, single-track trail, but I did get to talk to lots of concerned folks riding by. I'm sure almost everyone knew at dinner last night about the gray mare that tied up on the trail!
Since all the vets were out at the vet check, I walked in, slowly - no choice - no way to trailer out and gave her a few hours rest and trailered home. I only live about 2 hours away, luckily. Had blood drawn by my vet - want to see what her selenium and other levels are.
The Cuyama ride seemed a lot more crowded than last year. Lots of big rigs that were having a hard time finding a place to park. Makes me glad I just have a camper and horse trailer to worry about where to put! But even that would have been hard to park if I had waited until late Friday to arrive.
The weather was warm on Friday, cooler on Saturday. By the time I walked back it had started to rain lightly, which would have felt good if I were riding. Don't know if it continued raining, but it was supposed to be beautiful today and Monday. More rain expected on Tuesday.
Now on to figure out this tieing up problem which seems to get worse. We had been unable to ride for weeks up here because of lots of snow. It's funny how some horses can sit and not be ridden and are fine. My horse is not one of them! If she is not ridden continuously between rides, we have this tieing up problem, though this was the first time it happened at a ride.
Well - maybe next year!
