[RC] AHA Ride Manager Requirements - mkrumlaw

Hello All,

Just thought I would clear up some confusion...

Anyone interested in having their endurance ride recognized by AHA for
sweeps points needs to send $20 and a completed application at least 30
days prior to the ride to the AHA office for approval. You must do this
for each distance wishing to be recognized. LD rides DO NOT count.

It's the assumption of the AHA office that the ride manager be a member
of AHA and a steward is required. The rules defining AHA Endurance
Recognized rides exist in Chapter 16, specifically article 1611. For the
record it does not state either of these requirements. So I feel those
requirements could be challanged.

There was another post stating you were required to present different
awards and BCs if you have the ride recognized. This is completely
untrue. The only time this is a requirement is if you are holding an AHA
National or Regional ride.

An open recognized ride considers all horses starting the ride regardless
of breed or sweepstakes designation. So if you were to have the ride
recognized, and 50 horses started the ride, and the first Arab across the
finish line was the 5th place horse, the Arabian would get the 5th place
points. This *is* different than the regional events.

Though many are blasting AHA for this change, if you go back and review
points earned during the year, most distance horses would do better under
this system.

Hope this helps,

Mollie Krumlaw-Smith
