[RC] Irony Raises / Climate response and electrolytes - Christy Adame

Heidi,

Now, do me a real favor & address the question in the post, if you can, regarding Pro-Biotics?
How necessary are probiotics in endurance horses? Again, how can you really tell they are doing the job? Or, as you say, just giving extra [unnecessary] chemicals to an ordinarily normal horse under stressful condition?

How many of you have been to a ride where at the ride meeting, the ride vet "suggests" electrolytes before, during, & after a ride? Honestly, I can only think of a few rides where electrolytes WEREN'T mentioned.

Thank you for addressing "the rider." And thank you for pointing out that the "one rider" needs to understand that ONLY one rider lives in Texas ASSUMES (let's break that word down by syllable) that if HER ONLY horse is having ISSUES, that it NEEDS electrolytes. Or God save us, the "mantra," of where I & many other riders live (Texas--Central Region). IF you are going to "quote" the post, quote the whole post, not just the part that you find un-applealing...

Why are you admonishing for posting on ridecamp? Let the "rest of the readers/riders" get something out of this. If you are tired of seeing the subject, DON'T READ. Some of us don't have a chance to read the ridecamp posts EVERY WAKING minute of the day (I along with a few other "riders" who work!).

Have a good day!

Yes, many times.

And one Texas rider who rides in that very heat and humidity also chimed
in and mentioned that she found that the problems she was having with
some of her horses was that they did better without e-lytes, while
another one did do better with small doses.

Heat and humidity are not an automatic mantra requiring e-lytes. The
horses are still individuals, they still should train without e-lytes
so that they acclimate, and their individual needs still need to be
taken into account. Some need them, some don't, and the rider still
needs to understand what is happening instead of simply thinking that
just because the horse has issues, it is automatically a need for more
e-lytes.

Heidi
