I must confess that I find this statement a bit unusual.  For ME, 'tummy
ache in my horse' is the definition of colic.

For those of you who make a distinction between these, at what 'stage' does
a tummy ache become colic?

It is difficult to talk about whether something causes colic or not if we
aren't all using the word colic in the same way.
