after a dose of elytes, rather than having the "take care of themselves" attitude to continue eating should count themselves as unlucky.  And I've certainly never seen a horse colic after being given a dose of elytes!
We have one that we do not electrolyte. Even when he did 100 miler in 100 degrees. He does not respond well to them at all! Took me awhile to figure this out but I know now NOT to give him lytes. He not a particularly great eater but he'll eat, not a particularly great drinker but he'll drink. And anytime he has top tenned he was won high vet score. What ever works for him.

Matter fact his two half siblings we ride also do not do well will lytes either. It took us awhile to figure this out but they perform 100% better with no lytes. Jezireh, however, does well with small doses.

I have said this before, you have to know what works for your horse.
