Don't think Barbara is saying the elytes caused the thumping, just that they 
were too late to prevent the thumps and metabolic problems.

On the contrary, Dabney, if the horse was seriously dehydrated, dumping
in a bunch more e-lytes without water may well have caused additional
imbalances at the tissue level, which could indeed have caused the
thumping.

Horses are amazingly tolerant and able to self-regulate--but this is
just one more example of when and how e-lytes misused or overused can
do harm.
