RE: [RC] Abusing Horse - Kristen A Fisher

I beg to differ that the average is 14hh but it is well within the standard. Check this info:

Also, have you mentioned all the vet controls, the careful conditioning, etc?

BTW a lameness pull at HOH/Old Glory is pretty easy to do because of the terrain.

To do that many rides in 2 yrs is hardly a newcomer.  Maybe not long term but not so new.  Go to the archives and search as this subject has been cussed and discussed over the yrs.

1. ARABIANS can hold more wt than the average horse.  Look at the Arabian breed books.
2. Where did he get his info?  Maybe he still thinks all cowboys actually rope bulls,,, well guess what?  NOT.  Lots of misconceptions.
3. Arabs have only just started being larger due to selective breeding for that.  AVERAGE is 14hh.
4. Some think riding horses at all is abusive.. well we used to eat them after hunting them in early days of man.
5.  Perhaps he could do he own research to prove HIS point.
6.  I am 5'.5' and weight over 170 and ridden Arabs for twenty yrs.
7.  Get your own literature and leave it sitting around so the 'knowitall' can get educated.

Subject: [RC] Abusing Horse

Okay,  I will probably get alot of feedback on this post.  I am fairly new at endurance riding.  I have competed in about 8 rides in the past 2 years.  I competed in the HEart of the HIlls ride this weekend.  It was to be my 2nd 50 mile ride.  I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area which is a pretty flat area.  After completing the 50 miles I was pulled due to lameness.  The terrain was a lot rougher than I had thought it would be and then add the fact that it rained.  But, anyway, when I arrived back home my husband accused be of abusing my horse by riding such rides.  I have an arabian mare she is a little over 14 hands but she is pretty stocky. I am a heavyweight rider and my husband feels that it is abuse to ride her even 25  miles.  Have any of you ever been accused of abusing your horse because you ride endurance.  I take very good care of my mare and I think we were just not ready for the terr ain this weekend.  Does anyone have any feedback that I can pass along to my NON horse husband who just sees a money pit in the barn.
