Wrap it first in a few wraps of vet wrap, then use duct tape over it. The
duct tape will be smooth against the horse, and the vet wrap will keep the
buckles from getting goo on them from the tape. Of course, to change stirrup
length, you will have to cut the wrap off, but I rarely change mine.
