[RC] tow vehicle specs - Dawn Simas

As Laney said, you need to know the amount you are towing.  Look possibly on the registration for the trailer for a GVWR, or if the info is sometimes stamped on the front of the trailer itself on a little plate.  And your horse.  Maybe 800-900# for the horse.  Sometimes you can go to the local scales or feed store and they'll let you drive up on them to weigh.  Unhitch the empty trailer (or the tongue weight will be transfered to your truck) to weigh it.  Then drive your truck on and weigh it.  And walk your horse onto it and subtract your own weight to get the horse's.

For the rating of your Toyota, you may find the info in your owners manual under "towing".  You want to know the GCWR, this is the Gross *Combined* Weight Rating.  It will include the weight total of your whole rig loaded (people, tack, animals, fuel).  Subtract what your truck weighs and that is what you can safely pull.

Also, look at your hitch for a weight rating and tongue weight limit for the hitch.  It should be stamped on the hitch.

Lots of great info at www.mrtruck.net.  You can email Mr. Truck with your truck's info and often he'll email you back with your answer, he's great!
