[RC] Founder question - Lif Strand

In a discussion on another list, the subject of founder came up. I mentioned that somewhere along the line someone told me that sometimes an extraordinarily shiny coat, almost artificially shiny looking, is seen on a foundered horse. I have myself seen such a shiny coat on a foundered horse, and assumed it was connected because of this memory. I mentioned this on the other list and it was questioned - I have to admit that I'm not sure where I heard about the shiny coat/foundered horse connection, or if it's one of those jumbled memories that isn't based on anything at all.

Since there's so many knowledgeable people on this list, I thought I'd ask if the shiny coat/founder memory is a false one, or if this is something others have seen, and if it is something that happens, why the shiny coat? Thanks.
