[RC] Endurance Riding in Mexico - Peggy B-Smith

Here's some additional information on the the post about El Dorado, San Felipe, Mexico.
In my "misguided youth" I and my husband belonged to a dirt bike club where I worked (TRW in Redondo Beach) and went every spring down to San Felipe with our group. They had just started developing El Dorado in the last 80s.  We went down twice and camped on their beach, the last time in 94. First - it is hot, Hot, HOT. You really don't want to go down there past April or May. Second, there in almost NO water down there. If you go on a ride anywhere, you will have to bring your own water - there is almost none, especially in the San Felipe area. We would ride our dirt bikes from the beaches north of San Felipe to Mike's Sky Rancho, in the mountains, about 100 miles one way. I never remembered seeing any water except in the mountains and at Mike's.
Now, Mike's would be a great place to ride - it is a private ranch with a motel and an airstrip. When we were there in 78, they used to have stables with horses for the guests to ride. Haven't seen the horses for a long time.

I have spent a lot of time in Mexico, travelling twice the entire length of Baja and my husband pitted for Honda on the Baja 1000 a number of times. If you dont' mind being searched entering Mexico, a number of times on the road in Mexico - it's fine. And, you're being stopped on the road by what appears to be little boys with automatic weapons - who, by the way, will let you go if you give them Baja 1000 & Honda stickers!
Mexico may be a relatively cheap place to live, but in my opinion, I wouldn't want to invest my retirement there. Too many problems.
Just my opinion - for what it's worth!
