[RC] Need landowner references ASAP! Northeast region preferred butnot required. - Sharon Levasseur

As some of you know, I'm trying to create a new ride. There is a 4000-acre land
trust that I need to run my new ride across in order to make this ride happen.
I went to one of their meetings last week to present information about the
ride.

This is the reply I just received from a member of the Board of Directors. I'm
hoping y'all can help me answer her question.

"Thanks so much for taking the time to come and speak to us last week regarding
your proposed endurance ride! Several people since have come to me with
concerns about the actual impact of 50 galloping horses on roads/trails - and I
thought perhaps the best thing to do to answer that would be to get a reference
from someone who's hosted such a ride on their land before.

Can you provide me with contact info for people who've hosted a ride in southern
Maine, or at Acadia? Or perhaps in NH, VT, or MA?"

I replied with the following:
"Will do, ASAP! Meanwhile, I should have been more clear at the meeting... my
current trail plan only has the 50-mile horses traveling through any of the
Land Trust property. That will probably be 30 (or so) horses out of the total.
And distance riders really DO travel most of the distance at a trot, especially
the 50-milers since they have so much farther to go. There won't be much
galloping going on at all. Sorry about the confusion, I was a little nervous
about speaking in front of everyone."

The ride is scheduled for August, which is pretty dry around here, and the
"trails" we're talking about are actually abandoned sand/gravel logging roads
as seen at http://www.zegifts.com/HTH/logging-roads-1.jpg . They're good
roads. In this picture, it was November and had been VERY rainy, so my horse's
hooves did make prints but not deep ones.

She wants contact information, so please feel free to reply privately to
sharon1359 at spamcop dot net.

Thanks,
Sharon Levasseur, Maine
Manager of the Hot Toddy Hustle (but only if I can get permission from these
people!)
