A horse does gallop in the field, but not carrying a 150 lb rider, 20 lb saddle and a different center of balance.  You also wouldn't let your 10 year old run a marathon carrying a 20lb pack, but you might with proper training let them run a 10K with you.  Same thing.

Isn't this too extreme? Surely this "growth plate" issue,etc also applies to humans,or other critters. Young horses gallop in the pasture all the time. A horse that can't be cantered is pretty useless.If we have to wait six years...
