Re: [RC] Chevy Ad - Laney Humphrey

In a perfect world, I would be the first to agree with you, Bruce. But I'm old enough to remember WWII and the McCarthy era ("Good night, and good luck" should be a must see!). I'm also a woman. I know you didn't mean your remarks to be sexist, but from my perspective they could be taken that way since I know you are a very tall, white male with a professional degree after your name. In other words, you and your sort do still pretty much own the world. And, being from the generation I am, and the upbringing I had, I see attitudes like yours as what led to Hitler's rise to power.
I don't feel I'm "taking offense" so much as pointing out what I see as inappropriate and standing up for my right to be recognized and valued. I'm just doing my "fruitful hard work."
May the new year see less need for fruitful hard work as mine!

As I get older, I realize that I have to know my limitations if I am to live happily and not spread myself too thin. I made a New Year's resolution to reserve less time for "taking offense" and more time for appreciation. When I am connecting with my beautiful 16 year old daughter, or sharing a special dinner with my wife, or I am king of all I survey when my horse carries me to new scenery and safely back home again, I just can't muster the energy to worry seriously about some corporate ad exec's poor judgement they exercised in trying to sell more trucks. I heard a phrase one time that always gives me hope when I recall it: "It's true that the world is full of pain, suffering and injustice. But it's also full of the overcoming of them." When we look through the "window of the world," the Chevy ad is just a fly speck, in my book. Here's hoping you can all happily exhibit as much honesty and fruitful hard work in the coming year...............as your horse. Bruce Weary
