Re: [RC] Question - hoof crack to hairline? - Ericka Nelson

Yes, I did have that happen.  The train of thought was that it was caused by improper shoeing.  I put a special goooo on it once a day and it grew out and you'd never know it happened.  My vet said "as long as he's not lame, it'll be ok".  So, is your horse lame?  Mine wasn't.  BTW...the goooo was equal parts of pine tar, neets foot oil and Risen(not sure of spelling there).  Got that recepi from a long time rider who used to work at the race track.  I used a brush to apply.

Does anyone have any experience with a horse with a crack in the hoof going all the way up to the hairline? (front hoof) Will it eventually grow out?  Can it cause soundness problems?
Thanks
Naomi
