[RC] going bitless - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Since I have felt compelled to ride bitless
I have tried it on 7 of my horses
with very consistent results. I train
consistently alone with the bitless with
no challenges. The results of rides bitless
are:
Horse #1 (laid back guy) could
use bitless all the time, horse #2 (a "goer")
needed to start with a bit, but
then could change to bitless in mid ride,
horse #3 (a hothead)could use bitless w/martingale
at beginning of ride and then remove martingale,
horse #4 (not a hothead til we
went to a ride) bitless w/ martingale at beginning
and then remove after start first chance, horse #5
can use rope halter in training no problem
and very light but head shakes with Cook's
bitless bridle. (The other
two were hot trail horses
and they were fine, the trick
is to teach the bend).
It is yet to be determined at a ride for
horse #5, however I am sure I will not put
him in a bit. FYI, I
am *not* a fearless and great rider. I just choose
to use this method and have felt safe.
Parelli encourages the use of rope halter
during the resistance (beginning training)
faze and then
graduate. Based on my experience, and
I ride alone and have had 4 very HOT horses.
I think it is worth a try, but start in an arena
or round pen to build your confidence if needed.
