Re: [RC] Which horse to buy? - Sundaez

OK you asked for it...my commercial for Morgan horse!

I love my mare...she is amazing. Big bones...not the stocky Lippet type but narrow lean type. She has an amazing trot, very comfortable canter and natural collection. 4.5 mph walk and 6.5 mph 4 beat shuffle. Eats and drinks in camp, etc. She can be a little hot but is never stupid hot if you know what I mean...just needs a bit of discussion occasionaly. Never been lame, never sick. Big hard black feet.  Never sour...loves to go out....snatches the bit and thrusts her head in the bridle. SHe does have a more acute sense of self preservation like most mares, but will cross anything if you let her think it through. Took me a few years to figure this out.

Metabolically she's always down when I get to the vet check....but I don't race. A Morgan's endurance comes not from speed but steadiness all day long. She even naps at vet checks after she has something to eat...smart horse...then is ready to go after the check. It's funny becuase she naps in the afternoon at home, so if she doesn't see any reason why she shouldn't at the afternoon check.
