Focusing here at home, this is the key to the whole issue since the
AERC NC was formed. No one gives a rats a$$. This is kinda a
problem for our sport, me thinks. So, what do we need to do to
make people care? This is supposed to be our one yearly ride-off
between the best of the best.

The first thing we as the AERC need to do is make people CARE
about the AERC NC... care about qualifying... care about making
the ride... just Care.

Right now it means nothing. That doesn't mean it's not a good idea.
It means it hasn't been done right yet. My point is the ROC did
something really really right. The AERC NC can do that too if we
figure out how. *I* think the key was the qualification. Making
the qualification stiffer makes it mean something to be there.

Alot of this has to do with advertising and promotion. Till now the AERC has contracted the NC out and pretty much left every thing up to the contractor. If it is the AERC NC then by golly the AERC should care. They should be promoting it. They should be advertising it. It should have it's own web site with imagery that makes people want to come. It should be advertised on the back cover or inside front cover of the EN - every month. They can still select a ride where it can be held but they should make sure the ride is run right, the trails are correct and well marked, there is plenty of water on the trail, etc.

Susan Gibson had Trail Blazer to promote the ROC - and she did. She made people want to go. She promoted it with stunning imagery of the ride site. She made people want to qualify. That's the model the AERC should adopt. Right now - besides a lot of lip service - the AERC BOD is not showing they care about the NC, so why should the riders? Time for the AERC to take a much more active roll in the NC.

For my money if FEI riders don't want to support the AERC NC unless it is FEI sanctioned, that's their lose.

Truman
