[RC] Public Perception - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Flat track (TB) racing has been in decline since 1975, after
it had a huge boost in 1973 when Secretariat so gracefully
captured the Triple Crown and the nation's heart. Why 1975?

Everyone who was alive remembers... when Ruffian broke down
on national TV in a "pointless" match race. The fact that
they could not save her wasn't announced until the next
morning. We all went to bed thinking surgery could save her
and she would be a terrific broadmare. We all went to bed and
thought we would atleast get to see her foals.

Since the pictures of Ruffian's sheet wrapped body being
buried in the infield of Belmont Race Track were shown the
next morning, the public has been turned off to flat track
TB racing. Attendance is way down and almost every track
has had to turn to slot machines.

In 1975 AERC Endurance was riding it's rising star. We have
vet controls! We take good care of our horses! We have a
zero drug policy! We do not let people enter 3yo baby horses!
We do not create and then destroy Ruffians!

It's actually a very important part of what AERC endurance
riding is... and what we need to make great strides to defend.
