[RC] Injuries - shoulder and ankle. - Nikki McCormack

I am a bit behind on posts, so bear with me. I did want to add my two bits about injuries.

First, I suffered an injury to the muscles, tendons, and nerves of my right shoulder, collarbone, and upper back (due to a stupid user error with a large TB mare). It was not properly diagnosed at the time (back in 1993) and I am still working on ways to manage pain problems in that area. Fortunately, it does not hurt as much while riding as it does the day after so I just have to keep the Advil on hand. Moral: Make sure you get diagnosed correctly and don't settle for only one opinion if you have any doubts.

Secondly, I broke and severely sprained my ankle in a caving accident two years ago. It still causes me a lot of pain (mostly walking on hard surfaces - solution, don't go shopping). It turns out the main reason for this is a chip of cartilage in the ankle joint that did not heal back 100%. I was told they could remove it, but they would have to break another bone to get to it due to its location in the joint. Needless to so, this is not high on my To Do list. However, it may not hurt to have some MRIs done just to make sure you don't have something loose in there that they could remove in a less destructive manner.

My 2 cents,
Nikki
