For those of us who have never been asked or had a horse to be considered (much less have any interest), it is easy to throw stones and I do take that into account. Also, for those of us merely dreaming of being able to afford a living quarter trailer some day, the thought of selling a horse that you picked up for $500, conditioned and finished a few rides on, then selling it for $10,000 and up...is an incredible temptation. Rich people and glitz have always been an American weakness.
